We should never have considered leaving without buttering our bread as far as we could, and having put together a no-deal policy from the outset. If we'd shown confidence in leaving without a deal, we'd be far more likely to get one!
BUT...........why are we leaving? Because the Euro MP's we had did absolutely sweet fanny-adams and appeared to loll around and live it up on Euro MP expenses and allowances!! If they'd got off their flipping arses and done a few decent day's work, we may well have made a success of being a game-player in Europe, instead of allowing the UK to become the put-down whipping boy!!
Why are we leaving?
It has next to nothing to do with your somewhat fanciful interpretation of events and far more to do with the nefarious actions of successive British governments and of the EU combined.
The UK should never have agreed to the deepening integration and increasing federalism which is what led to Brexit; free travel of EU citizens and reliance upon the EU for so much (but thankfully not the €uro) are in large part responsible for negativity not just in the UK towards the EU.
If the EU had not been so greedy and manipulative instead concentrating on trade rather than unnecessary regulations and self-aggrandisement over the course of decades, there would be no cause to want to leave.
As it was the UK by necessity became involved in EU politics which led to our having an ever-decreasing voice inside a supposed "union" which - as is more obvious now than ever before - was in reality led by a few countries who still seem determined to promote their own wellbeing to the detriment of others in their unequal union.
Already other member countries (and non-member like Norway and Switzerland) seem to be realising this and are objecting, in various ways. If these few EU-ruling countries do not change soon and prove that their idea has merits and advantages not just costs, real reform is inevitable.
We in the UK could well hasten this if - as many suspect - the UK does well once free of the EU.
Given the EU's recent history of poor performance that should not be difficult to achieve.
