Avocado - recipes please!

Read this article about avocado being a nearly perfect food. I've only had it in guacamole. Anyone got a favourite way of enjoying avocado?

Yep, the perfect recipe - Pick up avocado, open lid to rubbish bin, deposit avocado inside. Go to shop buy a rock melon, a mango, a nectarine, jackfruit, dragon fruit, even a guava, in fact any fruit is better.

My first taste of one was when I worked at the PO Tower in London and Billy Butlin ran the revolving restaurant - one of the waiters taking a tray of them upstairs gave me one. I was singularly unimpressed

Actually I have an avocado tree in a pot in my garden (they are easy to propagate from the seed) but a very over rated fruit in my opinion.

When we lived abroad, we had avocado's growing in the garden.
The way we liked them was to take off skin and slice up, sprinkle with sugar and marinate in freshly squeezed orange juice for a few hours, and eat them as a sweet course.

I like to mix prawns with mayonnaise and pile it into the hole left by the large seed. It's a lovely mix.

I wouldn't have thought of using it with anything sweet... interesting. I can definitely imagine it with shrimp and mayo. Any salt or pepper, or other with that?

Re: Avocado - recipes please!

Val, can you tell me how to pick a good one? I forgot to ask before I bought one today, so I chose a dark avocado, not green, that had a bit of give to it when I pressed with my thumb. Haven't peeled it yet to see what it's like. Maybe for breakfast?

Sounds like it should be ready Annie.
We had the dark purply ones in the garden, and a good size.

Marinated for a few hours they take up the flavour of the orange.

Sounds good then. I'll do that in a few minutes and it will be ready for lunch. Thanks Val.

Re: Avocado - recipes please!

Yesterday I sliced it up with orange juice and mixed in some chopped up orange - shared with my grandson and we both enjoyed it. Today I found another idea which also turned out to be delicious!

Mashed, ripe avocado + almond milk + honey + unsweetened cocoa powder, topped with sliced bananas = a surprisingly yummy chocolate pudding. I felt guilty eating it for lunch!

Bought another one to try with seafood and mayo. I'm becoming a fan and like how versatile avocado is. I will be keeping the pits to slice up and make buttons.
