A rant

I'm not wont to rant.........
But this one.
I'm deaf in my left ear. Have been for years. I knew that..Didn't need a hearing test But Now the right ear is doing funnies.
My dear fife made an appointment at the surgery.
"The nurse will examine your ears for wax."
We go along. No wax problem. I knew that.
"Make an appointment for a hearing test."

We did. "You are deaf in your left ear."
I knew that. Didn't need confirmation.

"See your GP."
GP appointment made. I will be referred to and ENT clinic.
Now four appointments to get ONE problem looked at/diagnosed/fixed. Even if it can be.

Rant over.

Re: A rant

My thoughts are for you to follow all the processes without ranting.

My SIL went through the same series of examinations last year, they know what they are doing .... all I can say is thank goodness he did.

I'll second that. What if nobody gave a @#$% if you had a hearing problem? First world problem mate. Have to say.

Re: A rant

I must say my experience was quite different. I made an appointment with my GP because he had to refer me to a hearing specialist and basically he looked in my ears to check there was no wax or infection before he signed the form.

Made an appointment to see a hearing specialist locally, this was actually the hardest part merely because of the number in the Wollongong area.

The girl did a hearing test, told me my hearing aids would take about a fortnight to arrive because they were made in Netherlands (I think it was) and had to be programmed for my hearing loss.

They duly arrived so I had an appointment to get them fitted, tested and had their operation explained.

I have had them about 6 months, may be a touch longer, and I think I have worn them for about 1 of those months in total.

They are fine, putting them is a breeze, they are very discreet, most people don't notice I am wearing them but, frankly I just can't be arsed to put them in. At home I just turn the TV up louder or turn on subtitles, when I am out I get by more than adequately without them though sometimes I have to ask a person to repeat what they said.

I suspect I will wear them more in future because my hearing is not going to improve however at the moment I only wear them occasionally and while they work well, as I said, I just can't be bothered.

Re: A rant

I so relate, Besoeker. In trying to have my mother seen by a specialist, we had to go to the GP who sent her to specialist one, who sent her to specialist two, who sent her to specialist three who said, "Why don't you just see your GP?

Back to the GP who took all the results and said, "Nothing much here, why don't you see a different type of specialist?

I wish someone had take a photo of my face at that moment.

Grrrrr.

Re: A rant

For me (not that I am) better to be deaf and just say "yes dear" than have an long drawn out speech of explaination

I haven't ranted except here. That's what here is for........
Of course I will follow the procedure. But FOUR trips to get one issue looked at seems to me excessive and not the most efficient use of NHS resources.

Re: A rant

typical I took 3 trips to the hospital over 7 month period, twice in an ambulance, before they diagnosed my health problem. First time they said they were going to do an MRI scan and nothing was done

Rushed in third time and all hell broke loose as, let just say, in a very bad way. Sue was told to expect the worst I found out afterwards

OK. The surgery called. You have an appointment with the audiologist is I think what the receptionist said...........
Think about the logic......

Re: A rant

WEent through much the same process here.

However, was given, by the GP, a free hearing test at Specsavers.

That test resulted in a free pair of hearing aids, from Specsavers.

Can't grumble at that.

I also get free batteries for life.

When I say "free" I mean "from the NHS" - which we all pay for!
