We had informercials about fire safety, smoking cessation and other public health concerns. They used to have them on bonfire night telling you to keep a safe distance and do you remember those car crash dummy ones telling us to wear seat belts? I think there was maybe one about child abuse and how to report it, one with lots of different faces giving one connected story. The teacher who noticed a child wasn't participating in class, that sort of thing. I think it was on last year.

That is a very, very big tip-off that a child is in desperate need of counseling, at a minimum.

Also, of critical importance, as Annie already said, is the fact that the child comes to believe that child abuse is a completely "normal" part of life. Thus, lessons in school are
important in order to make the child aware that child abuse is NOT NORMAL.

Re: CHILD ABUSE Vs, ANIMAL ABUSE

Children and animals have two crucial things in common. They are innocent and powerless. ALL adults are responsible for ALL children. We tell them what to do and have the responsibility - and privilege - of caring for them and bringing them up. Same with animals. I can't myself see any kind of argument to this. And I agree with BM. Abuse is abuse. It is never unintentional. IT is not about one single act that may be unintentional or an accident. Abuse is ongoing. IT is an attitude and mindset of contempt and disregard for the vulnerability of a child. Any kind of awareness moves will never hurt. And it is is taken very seriously in this country. Some people seem to think that chronic physical abuse - or "hard love" is the pathetic excuse for severe abuse sometimes used - is OK because it "toughens kids up"..This is total bullshit. All it does is teach kids that it's OK to bash people. Others use "cultural differences" as an excuse. I don't buy this for a second either. Violence is violence.

Every so often I hear on the evening news that another child was beaten to death by one of the parents. Such cases are always the end result of an on-going child abuse. It just breaks my heart and brings tears to my eyes. My God, where were the relatives, school teachers, neighbors, family friends and WHERE WAS THE SPOUSE during the long term abuse?

The spouse is not there it’s usually the mothers live in boyfriend.
There is no greater danger to a young child than a male in the household that is not their father .

Unfortunately, that is too often quite true. Especially if the child/children do not resemble him. Thus, he is constantly reminded that they are not his children.

Re: CHILD ABUSE Vs, ANIMAL ABUSE

It is feasible that parents with a negative agenda of their own could pass the connotations, onto their kids, indeed, even using the kids as tools of war, in a none physical context??
