The Return of Verhofstadt

Now the EU is well and truly screwed thanks to Britain offering a better alternative union than the unfinished, undemocratic, epic failure of the EU, there can be only one way forward for it.

Yep, you got it.... promote Guy Verhofstadt, into a senior role to shape the future of the EU.

Verhofstadt, a liberal MEP and former Belgian prime minister, will lead a seven-person slate for the Parliament that includes six men and two Euroskeptic MEPs, they added.
Which basically means the 2 Eurosceptic MP's will be excluded from meetings, ignored and silenced as the EU message of "more Europe" over rides any attempt at having any serious debate on reform or change in direction. Who could argue when the voice of Europscepticism is out voted every time by 4 to 2

Here comes "Die Peoples Independent Republic Auf Die EU"

Re: The Return of Verhofstadt

I don't see the problem; it's just more of the EU doing what they do.
Talk.
Quite a lot - in fact an awful lot.

A "Conference on the future of Europe" is pretty much guaranteed to see lots of talking but zero decisions and zero action in the typical EU manner.
That's probably why he's there, because making the frothing Verhofstadt the chair there for a while keeps him out of mischief elsewhere.

So much for gender balance too. Whatever happened to equality in the EU?

Re: The Return of Verhofstadt

Since we're (sort of) discussing the Netherlands I wonder how long it will take the Dutch to form a government this time after it took 208 days in 2017?

The results aren't as good as some are trying to suggest either, because the populists actually won more of the votes than last time too and in fact the far right has won more seats than ever before.
Not that this means much in a parliament that will have seventeen different parties represented, but it will see some interesting political allegiances develop over time in the Netherlands and makes any coalition vulnerable.
