Remember there are a number of very generous hand outs that they get plus equity release from property that they own. The State Age Related Benefit really should be abandoned.

Re: The Triple Lock.

We need to stop green taxes. That would help a lot of people and remove VAT from pensioners fuel costs.

Maybe an idea, but how could that be applied, especially as many of the elderly still have prepayment meters. It's all very well throwing ideas out there, but not much use without a method of application. I do find your idea interesting though.

..and what about the many who do not own property, or should they go and die in the wilderness?

Do you mean spend any savings they have, sell their property and
spend the money, and then throw themselves on the mercy of

What's the alternative? Live off the taxes that other people pay while keeping their own money to themselves?

The welfare state is already FAR to generous and should be nothing other than a safety net.

What right to we retirees have to expect young working people often with huge debts and families to pay for things that we can pay for ourselves by spending our savings or liquidating our assets first?

Change to online payments linked to the meter for the household.

Not sure your MP was right. The EU said everyone had to apply VAT to energy supplies so, our Government applied a 0% VAT rate on energy bills until it became expedient to raise money following the BLiar/Brown years.

Ok Todger, walk the talk...you liquidate your assets and live off them. Sell your house, for example, to a young family in need.
