Re: The Spratly Islands Paradise?

now let's unpack this as they say these days ! - US has for a long time recognized the 'one nation' status of China - now the chips are changing - Trump has said 'it's negotiable' BUT China has said NO it's not!

whilst back in the South China Sea - I wonder why it is called that? the Chinese say whilst we recognize the area is an international trade zone it is still ours - none negotiable in fact - this mexican stand off is getting more and more complicated than a mexican sombrero!

back again - they do say that history has a habit of repeating itself - so now I hear rumors and more rumors of the Brits sending in some heavy naval crafts to assist the aussies in patrolling the South China Seas - what's changed - nothing really but China continues to flex its muscles - Trump wants to take 'him' on and somehow the aussies or indeed the yanks as well have persuade you poor sods to join in with the Imperial British Navy!!

pipe them aboard lad and let battle commence!!

Re: The Spratly Islands Paradise?

well everyone seems worried about the ME and the Israelis and Arabs but the next bigger than ever flash point could be a longway a way and much more strategic and valuable the Spratley Islands in the South China Sea.

and here is why:

More than half of the world’s annual merchant fleet tonnage passes through these choke points, and a third of all maritime traffic worldwide.

The oil transported through the Malacca Strait from the Indian Ocean, en route to East Asia through the South China Sea, is triple the amount that passes through the Suez Canal and fifteen times the amount that transits the Panama Canal.
In addition to centrality of location, the South China Sea has proven oil reserves of seven billion barrels, and an estimated 900 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

If Chinese calculations are correct that the South China Sea will ultimately yield 130 billion barrels of oil (and there is some serious doubt about these estimates), then the South China Sea contains more oil than any area of the globe except Saudi Arabia. Some Chinese observers have called the South China Sea “the second Persian Gulf.”

read on McDuff; we may all be concentrating on the ME when the SCSea blows up:
