We have no standards of our own, so we are adapting the EU Standards until we develop our own.

We are also adopting all current EU Regulations and then face the massive task of wading through them all , repealing them and getting our own Regulations through Parliament.

That decision has already been taken, there is simply not enough Parliamentary time to do otherwise.
I beg to differ Swimmy, The British Standards Institute was [and is] a recognised set of standards adhered to around the world.

Surely, If whoever is buying a product is happy with the quality and price of the product, why should there be any objection or interference. As far as I can see the EU are being counter productive and limiting trade with their meddling.

Very few eu standards are as high as the British kite mark ,indeed most things are built down to an eu standard ,it gives inferior countries a chance

Yes this is very true Marmaduke....But the British Standards in our business could be satisfactorily met by our Quality Control, without the requirement to provide endless records and certification that the EU insisted upon.

Re: EU Regulations Gone Mad

British industry manufactures to all kinds of standards .... some for European , some for American .... Indian .... Chinese .... we do so today and would obviously do so once we leave .... but we don't need to move to Argentina to build an Argentinian lawnmower .... simply send us the drawings/spec sheet and away we go ......simple !
This is just another lame remoaner argument ..... Boeing give airbus a good run for their money and they are in USA ..... build aircraft for worldwide standards and airbus build theirs to comply with FAA rules ,it's simply remaining smoke and mirrors

Fair enough. We stick to their rules; they stick to ours!

That is undoubtedly a political decision: the Frogs have always been envious of this country for many reasons, and are just trying to make themselves seem important! In some ways they really are clowns.

Again, they set such silly rules and I'm sure we are capable of doing something similar for them.

Have to agree with that when it comes to electrical accessories which have to comply with BS:1363. There's some right EU tat on the market (other foreign made tat is available) which, IMO, shouldn't be given BS:1363 status as they are of poor quality and sometimes downright dangerous.

Re: EU Regulations Gone Mad

Hi

Apologies, my fault entirely.

Yes we do have the BSI.

It covers the following.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Standards

What I should have said is that we use the EU Standards for trade

We use the EN Codes.

We will have no alternative but to continue using those EU Standards for Trade when we leave.

There is simply not enough time to alter them.

Over the years, yes, we will be able to develop our own.

A simple example, my village, Prees.

One of our big chicken farms, just one of them, produces 2.6 million chickens a year.

30% of these go into value added products which we Export to the EU.

Within 15 miles of the village we have two massive slaughterhouses, they are also meat packers and produce cuts especially for Export.

We have Mullers only 7 miles away, Belton Cheese is 6 miles away, the by products of these are used to produce Butter and whey, the whey is used to feed the pigs which we then export as value added products.

Mullers alone produce 1500 tons a week of butter.

The biggest local Employer is an export company, exporting these to the EU in particular.

Also in the village we have an Engineering Company which holds the Patents for aircraft tugs suspensions, 5 miles away we have a company which produces the specialised seals for aircraft and rocket engines.

The owner of that Company is a fisherman, we talk, we are in the same Club, as is the owner of a Company which produces specialist Machine Tool Parts for BMW pressings and another who lives in the Village who has a factory in the West Midlands which produces gears for cars.

They voted for Brexit, they did not vote for financial suicide by leaving the EU without any Trade Agreements in place.

They are major employers, all they want is a period of stability to develop the opportunities, they do not want a Trade War which a Hard Brexit would cause.

Yes they are looking after themselves, but they are also people with a conscience, they do not want to have make employees redundant.

Nonsense. This is just wishful "thinking".

How on earth do you know the standards of all things that are produced/imported and exported into the EU???

How doo you now for example the comparable standards of riding hats accepted in the UK vs. The EU? I know they are different because I have met the problem.
So you tell me which is "better" and why.

Re: EU Regulations Gone Mad

SF re last post:

If they are happy to remain trading within the UK border then they may well vote for Brexit.

If they want to trade with anyone else they will have to abide by their standards. Including the EU.
It really is that simple. By leaving the EU but trading with it, you don't reduce paperwork, you increase it...and increase costs.
