And in case you're not aware of the meaning of that because of your non-European background just Google "Three Billy Goats Gruff"
Why your advice to google? It is a european fairy tale (from norway to be exact). You see? You are more european than you realise.

Yes, another member encouraged me to do so because there would be lots of friendly people there, too.
I saw lots of familiar names, and several new too.

Having European roots and having anything to do with the EU are two entirely different things.

Just as having a Dutch passport and actually being Dutch are two very different things.

Now I had to google to find out you didn't mean the german "verstehen". For me it's an everyday choice, having two pasports.

Holding a passport is not the same as having a real nationality though.

If you really mean that, than for you it doesn't matter if the cover of your passport also is imprinted with european union.

It only matters insofar that the majority of the British people NEVER applied or wanted to be politically or in any way associated with the EU.

That holds true only for the illiterate and stupid. The goal of the old EEC was an ever closer harmony between the people if europe. Everybody able to read could find that in the encyclopedia brittanica in every public library. The people of britain were asked in 1975 to give their opinion on remaining a member of the EU. You wanted to stay in.
I don't know what your politicians told you then, probably lies, same as in 2016. But only the stupid believe what politicians tell them.
Especially today, with the internet, you can get informed, with a little bit of critical reading. In 2016 approx. 48% of the voting population could.
