The reports are simply fake news.

Barnier, like Frost, is a Civil Servant.

They are both working to a detailed brief given by their Political Masters.

They both have a list of things they can and cannot agree.

They are rule takers, not decision makers.

Trade Negotiations are like a game of poker, both sides are looking for an advantage.

As in Poker, there is an element of bluffing.

Both the UK and EU have done the maths

And the EU have concluded there are no chances for a deal, so why waste time on it. The new presidency of the council, germany (=merkel) has decided to not put it on the agenda for the next 6 months. So it is simply goodbye to a trade deal for the UK.
Merkel wants to get the EU economy back in the rails after covid. The economic effects from covid are much larger than the exit of the UK can ever be. So for the EU covid needs to have priority. What the UK does, is of no interest to european leaders.

I mean it's not as if your 2nd biggest net contributor walked out the door and your 2nd biggest market.

Yes, you are right, covid is an extraordinarly big disaster. Therefore boris is rather acting irresponsible, the way he handles covid. But that is of topic here.

Merkel has put brexit off the agenda of the EU because covid is a much bigger problem than brexit. Boris is still going on about brexit, instead of putting covid first.

Like merkel said, you have to live with the consequences of brexit.
Speaking days before Germany takes over the EU rotating presidency, Merkel made clear that her priority was instead to push through a*pandemic rescue plan*to stop Europe’s economy sliding into the worst slump since the 1930s.

By the way, it seems not barnier is sidelined in the negotiations, but frost is. He has been recalled to london under the guise of succeeding mark sedwill. Brexit is crumbling on it's foundation.

If you're right.

1. We are walking away with no deal.
2. David Frost gets promoted.
3. We already left back in January

Where's Barnier ?

and what has Boris Johnson and COVID-19 got to do with this ? Your pathetic you can't even back up your own arguments. Remember that next time you tell everyone how intelligent you are.

You and persevere keep telling me how intelligent I am, I almost start believing it.

Your question I already answered in post 26.

Barnier? In brussels receiving the british trade delegation. Remember, the EU (barnier) will never walk away from the negotiating table handing boris an excuse to put the blame for the brexit disaster on the EU.
