Re: Accessing a GP

Since being back in the uk after forty years away, l have had two
brain scans in four years, and each time it took six weeks to get
the results! Whereas when l had a scan previously abroad l got
the result immediately after the scan ( MRI )?
I also recieved the analysis and a compact disc of the scan at the
same time, and the analysis was also forwarded to my GP
directly?
I question why the two countries have such a different approach
to health care?
My impressions of the NHS since being back are that the system
is set up to create delays and not to eliminate them?
And what l have read on this thread seems to endorse that!

Re: Accessing a GP

Getting a GP appointment is a nightmare here too, and that was before the C.Virus even. You wouldn't stand a chance now.

Swim, you often say how healthy your finances are, so if your problem is really worrying and urgent, perhaps you could pay for a private consultation?
Seems like the only way forward at the moment.

For those who cannot do this, I can't see an answer other than to join the queue.

Hi

No point in going private if you have to join the queue for treatment afterwards.

Guy requires some very complex treatment, which is sequential.

Besides which the vast majority of people cannot afford to go Private, so what happens to them?

It was a general point I was making.

Re: Accessing a GP

At my GPs surgery you can get to see a doctor on the same day you apply. You will not necessarily see your own doctor but you will be seen on the same day by one of the doctors. More often than not a locum, but you will be seen.

Ditto. If I phone our surgery in the morning I have a very good chance of getting an appointment for later the same day. As Ben says it may not be with my own doctor but that matters not if needs be.

Hi

You are very lucky, two days of phoning for over an hour resulted in nothing.

It is a Postcode Lottery.

We all pay the same for the service, yet for many it is a disaster.

Zuleika.
I am talking about 'normal times' I agree that because of this virus outbreak the situation is very different.
We have now been told only to contact the surgery if we deem our visit to be an emergency and even then a doctor will contact us by phone first.
Better to be safe than sorry.

I also get a good response from my GP! The problem for me seems
to be between GP and hospital ( about six week, but usually eight )
And then to get a specialst appointment l have been told it is
the same as the hospital waiting time? But l have yet to test this and
maybe l wont as l am thinking of forgetting about getting any
resolution of my problems?

May I ask which country this was, and did you pay to be seen privately?
