Homeless.

I was just wondering what will happen to the homeless people who sit on pavements & in shop doorways?

Who (if anybody) is feeding them? With no shoppers passing by them they have no one to beg from..

Re: Homeless.

Good question Carol. The only answer I have is that they will probably get what they usually do in normal times. The very rough end of the pineapple and limited sympathy. But good on you for asking the question.

Re: Homeless.

Apparently councils have been ordered to house them immediately... shame it’s taken all this to house them

Re: Homeless.

It’s not easy to home the homeless if you mean rough sleepers if they don’t want to be homed.

How will councils do it ?

The law in normal times cannot force them off the streets .

Now because of the social distancing they can’t all be made to go into shelters ..

What will happen is that they will get the corona virus and many will die .

These are people who in many cases already have compromised health .

They will observe no corona virus precautions .

The outcome is inevitable

Re: Homeless.

Many of these younger homeless are not homeless at all. They choose not to go home for a variety of reasons.

Well what are councils to do if people won’t be homed or go into shelters ?

The solution now seems to be that they will be housed in hotels
Like Travel lodges .

You can only imagine how this will end up - tragically - many of these rough sleepers have mental health issues .

They are not capable of looking after themselves and who is going to manage them ?

Re: Homeless.

it might be easier if they were allowed to sleep in churches & a soup kitchen available to feed them.

Re: Homeless.

Carol they could sleep in churches but still who will manage them ?
Churches are not set up for people to live in .
They have no or very few bathrooms for a start so they would have to be modified .
It’s not easy to manage rough sleepers .
Many have mental health issues or drug addiction problems .
They could not be left by themselves in a church or anywhere in fact .

There are soup kitchens already in towns the problem is keeping them safe during the corona virus .
The Salvation Army do a wonderful job talking food parcels around to rough sleepers .
As do organisations such as Shelter and Crisis

Re corona virus
Someone is going to have to police these people to make sure they keep social distancing and take health precautions .
I doubt if rough sleepers wash their hands at all.

Who is going to do this ?

I can only think that the army will be obliged to step in .
