Before following Tabby's instructions, get a wheelie bin plastic bag. Cut appropriate holes for you head and arms & cover the floor with lots of newspapers!

Just in case you break the jar and everything gets covered in beetroot juice!

Wind a thick rubber band tightly around the lid then 9 times out of 10 the lid will be easier to undo.

Always works for me

My husband just proudly text me to say he has got it off. Ive no idea how when he only has one arm I'l have to wait till I get home to find out how.

I thought that too May but last time that I did that the beetroot went off and all brown. I suppose I could have pierced it then placed it in an airtight container though come to think of it.

They need to make airtight lids easier to come off, oooo, Dragons Den anyone?

That's exactly what I do, stab through the lid with the point of my wee veggie knife, and it twists off right away. As for beetroot jars, I open them over the sink.
