I tend to keep most of my devices for some while so am often confronted with this type of question when the advance of technology overtakes me. The same with cables, if you still use them as often it's all wi-fi nowadays.

I have some SanDisk USB3.0 16Gb drives that Windows doesn't treat like other USB drives (whether 2 or 3)
When plugged in the computer beeps showing a USB device has been plugged in and my anti virus program pops up to say it is being scanned however memory devices are set to bring up Windows Explorer but this doesn't happen for these devices. Also I always name my drives because it is useful to identify their use etc but these only show up as a USB drive.
They work perfectly fine and Windows Explorer can access them etc. Here is how it appears in Explorer as E: drive:
Notice the USB drive (F) above it is treated differently and when plugged in Windows Explorer pops up showing its files and folders. Yet right click on either and the 'Properties' are almost identical.
I don't know what Sandisk did but there is something different about them as far as Windows is concerned. Not a problem, just odd.
