I agree with you that nothing argued by me (or anyone else for that matter) will change brexiters. As a social process that fascinates me. You find it more often in history. Notably in many germans after ww2, in denying they knew about jew transports. Nothing could convince them they must have been aware of the facts and have known what went on.
A very similar process is at work in brexiters. And before you all go loose on being compared with germans, take a step back and try to look at it in a detached way.

So to answer your question. This is a obviously leave favouring forum, with no room for a debate with those with another opinion. Even the moderator takes sides. So no better place than here to study that process of ilogic and intolerance.
But you still haven't answered Twink's other question...Why do you only post in this section of the forum? Surely you have interests other than politics? If not, I wouldn't want to spend an afternoon in the pub with you

Re: Why the EU call us Treasure Island

Hi

We have idiotic Politicians.

The whole World will be calling us Treasure Island unless we get some decent ones in charge.

Time for a change, we deserve better, much better.

Unfortunately the alternative we have is Corbyn and Abbott.

It is difficult to imagine any one else than the current bunch being worse, but Corbyn and Abbott could certainly take that title.

The World runs on WTO Rules and standard WTO Free Trade Agreements.

Good enough for Canada, Japan and South Korea, the latest ones to have a Free Trade Agreement with the EU without having to accept Free Movement, paying in or an EU Army.

We should take the same, it works for them, it would work for us.

Similar comments have been made before, so I have visited other subjects. Jokes for blokes has some funny participants. But those subjects that I am interested in, science, environment, medicine, health, are determined by facts and not opinions. But more than that, the practical personal side of these subjects is often fundamentally different in the netherlands. A simple example of this, we have insurance based health care which makes situations incomparable. When I read the items on having to identify yourself when voting, I remember even my parents taking their passports when they went voting. We have a law that everybody must carry some kind of identification when outdoors. But not even the police may ask for your identification, unless there is a serious cause.
So my domestic situation is very different from yours. Being a rather shy person by nature (sometimes you can't tell from my posts), I doubted that in the midst of a discussion you would be interested about the differing situation in the netherlands.
So, in a pub we may have much to discuss in a one-on-one situation, but I doubt my opinion would be appreciated in other forum subjects.

All politicians are idiots, not much choice there.

Take may's deal, use the two years transition period to negotiate your trade deal. To be sure you get a good deal, use hired negotiators from the continent.

Hi

That is where the problem lies.

I like the Netherlands and their Political Systems and way of life.

It is however so very, very, different to the system here in the UK.

You are looked after by your Politicians, we are not.

We have a Political Elite so totally removed from reality on both sides.

You have rational, intelligent Politicians who are focused on doing what is best for you as Country, we do not.

You have legalised soft drugs, prostitution and regulated them.

A very pragmatic view.

You have legalised ordinary Pornography.

You have a far more liberal society than we do.

You have however drawn lines on what is acceptable and what is not.

You have ID, we do not.

Your Enforcement Officers have far more powers than here in the UK.

They know how to use them and are backed by your Politicians, unlike the UK.

They let the little things go, Cannabis, prostitution, porn.

The serious stuff, Hard Drugs, child sex abuse, people trafficking is a big no no.

You have religious freedom, heavily protected.

Radical Mosques and Imams you deal with ruthlessly, I really envy you.

You keep your noses out of things that do not concern you, have no pretensions of World Influence and are not a lacky of anyone.

I am absolutely committed to leaving the System , leaving the EU and taking a back stage in World Politics and concentrating on looking after ourselves and making life better for the ordinary person.

We are no longer a World Power, we have 2 Aircraft Carriers, with a few planes and an air of delusion.

We do not even have an Anti Missile System to protect us from incoming.

You are one of the most liberal Countries in the World, but your Enforcement Officers have the full backing of Government and the Public.

They are absolutely ruthless and have free rein to do things we could not even contemplate here.

We have a lot to learn.

I could live in the Netherlands.

They also have probably the largest number of historical organs in a relatively small area in the world. I could go to an organ recital every week and travel to them on what is undoubtedly a far better transport infrastructure than we have.

We've been on holiday there a number of times.

Yes, I'd live there - if we were a bit younger, though we'd have to learn Dutch. Yes, I know they speak English, but I'd like to be able to reciprocate.

In your list I miss one item regarding the EU. It is an important reason why we hate to see the UK leave, and it has nothing to do with money.
In the EU we are small players, but we, on some subjects, know we are the wisest. When the big boys don't want to see our way, we tell them: just you wait, we'll make a phonecall to London. And soon the other players start seeing things our way.
If the UK leaves, that option disappears. You don't know the half of the importance of this diplomatic route.
