Divine intervention - true or false?

the recent sad story of the husband and wife out cycling in Sydney who were both mowed down by an elderly female driver brought this to mind. The wife was killed outright and the husband survived with minor injuries. The wifes brother went on facebook and posted:

"She [had] her whole life ahead of her. Why did God feel he needed her?"
He was obviously very attached to his sister but it is this thought that somehow God has intervened if you believe in God.

My take on this sad story is that is was a pure accident and my own interpretation of biblical readings is that we all have been give free will to do whatever we wish and want - take Hitler for an example - why didn't God intervene in the gas chamber experiments people ask?

To paraphrase God " I have given all of you free will to do whatever - it may be good or 'bad' but I will not interfer - you have to learn"

there have been instances of course in history where divine intervention does seem to take place and people have been saved from disasters etc - why - not a clue - Gods knowledge and design is omnipotent omniscient omnipresent and ours isn't.

so whilst I can sympathize with the brothers grief IMO - God did not decide to take her there and then

Cannot disagree with your take on it MB, God is here, there and everywhere but he has given us free will and IMO will give us the help to get through difficult times but doesn't take people or help them physically.

Re: Divine intervention - true or false?

just had another thought "freewill" is a pretty powerful tool to hand out and in the wrong hands can be disasterous - can anyone think of any examples?

I think we see that every day TBH it's wasted on some and used badly by others and some do down right evil things using it.

Re: Divine intervention - true or false?

Since there is no such thing as 'divine intervention' - the question is entirely superfluous.

I already do know Julie - once my life here is over - there is nothing else and my body will be burned to ash and then scattered at sea - end of story - finito!!!

We all believe we know, why do you think you are uniquely qualified to say you are right ? only after death will any of us really know.

Does it matter to anyone else what an individual believes happens after death if it's hurting no one? not worth discussing imo, as Julie says ,even she doesn't know and her a believer too.
