It seems he got off very lightly for what he did.

Unfortunately there is always someone to take his place with the next scam.

Re: Scammer caught and fined

A few days ago I had an e-mail supposedly from a bank in Barbados telling me that they are releasing some money held in my name and asking for my bank details. You think they'd be a bit more subtle than that !

Re: Scammer caught and fined

There is another doing the rounds supposedly from HMRC which states it's a VAT receipt, I had one of these a few weeks ago, There is a link in the email which contains a virus. I found this out after emailing HMRC to query their email, thought it may have been their error.
I didn't open the link and all now deleted, phew!!!

Don't think they punish these scammers enough!

Re: Scammer caught and fined

I don't mind the email ones so much it's usually fairly easy to see what is a scam by the header or the fact I don't actually have a bank account at that bank but telephone calls irritate because they can catch people unawares if you are rushing around and not paying proper attention, also the idea they think I am so stupid I will believe them makes me quite cross

There's also one pretending to be from Nat West credit cards, saying it's confirming a payment. I don't have a credit card so I realized, I sent it on to their Phishing dept.

Oh will watch out for that one, Twizard......gawd, you can't let your guard down, can you?
Have to say the HMRC one looked genuine enough but I am ultra careful with links.
