Skype spammers

I've recently been bombarded with various "Generals" from the US Army wanting to be friends. Needless to say I've blocked them.

Wonder why and what's their purpose and why me ?

I only have my son as a friend so don't want to change the settings to friends of contacts only as I'd like some genuine friends one day - if there are any such ones out there.

Has anyone else been contacted by these "Generals" and does anyone actually reply to them. ?

I don't use Skype. I would be very careful CC and would delete them pretty fast. They may be fake and phishing, looking for a rich widow

Well they won't find one here.

They have been blocked so shouldn't hear from them again.

I am on Skype and have my settings on friends and contacts only
I don't want the World coming through for whatever reason.
I have also changed my profile photo after a unwanted Skype from
someone speaking in Arabic and his profile photo was his penis.
So mine is a Yorkshire Flag now. I reported him straight away.
I was shocked at first as I didn't really know what it was
at first.
I love Skype and can talk to my Grandkids over in France, my penfriends
in Tasmania and Oregon and my friends in England. Its all free too.
So the goodness overrides the bad things. I don't get spam though so
could be you need to change the settings.

p.s. Have heard about these American Generals before they are 21 year
old women and men in Africa.

Funnily enough only yesterday my friend was telling me that a man, a major in the army has been contacting her on Skype. I told her to make her settings more secure and not to even attempt speaking to this man, who is most likely sat in an internet café somewhere in Nigeria. Sometimes I do wonder about people when I read that some women have lost everything they own to these scammers. What comes over them to believe the stories of "waiting for my money to arrive", "my child is very sick and my money has not yet been cleared" etc etc? Hopefully this morning my friend has changed her settings and will have no further contact with this scammer.

I think the problem is when you are honest yourself it is hard to believe so many other people aren't, I know when I first got the internet it was a bit of a shock to see so many liars about I thought people were better than they were
