If occult blood is not found in your faeces sample then you do not need another test for two years because that's how long it takes for a tumour to grow in the bowel and start producing such blood.

Sorry, I don't think that is correct. I wouldn't want people misled.

I believe it's true for many as these cancers can be quite slow but it would be dangerous to assume it's true for everyone.

Exactly my point.

The reason that the NHS does not provide annual screening (which is the norm in the US) is much more likely to be due to lack of resources. This screening test has a high false positive rate, meaning that more procedures will be necessary in a large number of people who don't have cancer.

If you have no blood in your stools and you show no symptoms, why would you want a test every year? If it's just for your own reassurance and nothing more, then I'm sure the kit Julie recommended in a previous post would do the job.
