April 23rd St Georges day.

Tis St Georges day today, supposed to have slain the Dragon and rescued a maiden,

Im all in favour of the second, but slaughtering wildlife is a no no for me.

Also he is Johnny Foreigner so should he be de-selected so we can choose one of our own
He never set foot on Englands soil, Shakespesre wrote "Cry God for Harry, England and St. George."

So who could we nominate to replace George ?

Re: April 23rd St Georges day.

Well, there are many so-called heroes who probably never existed that we think highly of.

Robin Hood, King Arthur, Merlin, St. Patrick (who was Welsh), Hercules, Confucious and Mr. Big Himself.

People have dedicated their lives to prove that they really existed - a bit sad I feel.

Most of us love a good adventure story or tales of mythical heroes. Through the generations, their exploits are exaggerated and refined. The real truth is unimportant. For example, who discovered America?
It wasn't Christopher Columbus. He had three voyages out State-side but never once did he set foot on the land we now know as the USA.

If I was allowed to, I would raise the cross of St. George above the house and be proud of my heritage.

Howz about a Neville Chamberlain Day, or an Arthur Scargill Day?

Lots going on here for St George´s day. All the British pubs have the flag flying, all have special events going on, there´s even a St George´s day parade this afternoon. Perhaps you should come over here Hanfonius, you can then wave your flag happily with no "silly" complaints.

Wishing English folks everywhere a very happy St. Georges Day. If there's nothing big going on where you are make your our special day of it and enjoy yourselves.

I think most of them got the knock Twiz, don't know what they call it, dehaloed?, when the wife's favourite saint (St Philomena) was rubbed out by the Vatican she was most annoyed with the church, seems they can make em and break em anytime they wish, she wasn't having that so she doesn't go to church anymore, only to weddings, christenings and funerals.

Nah... they were both losers in their own way, what we need is someone to rally round and stir the spirit. (Not Billy Bragg as favoured by a poster on here )
