Re: Pictures you love
The family farm
By Richard Snashall · 7 mins · From My Back Roads
Drought is usually the first thing most of us think of when it comes to the hardships of primary producers. But there is another subject that many people in the bush don’t want to touch, formalised succession planning for the family farm.
After a bitter experience within her immediate family that left once close relationships broken, Julie Armstrong was determined not to let this happen with her three adult children and the 17,000 acre family property, Corynnia Station, in the NSW Riverina.
Julie and husband Bruce tackled succession planning head on and sought external help which they said was tremendous. Today each of their children know exactly where the other stands.
Daughters Bella and Daisy live away from Corynnia Station while son Hamish has returned with a degree in Agribusiness to live and work on the farm - as a paid contractor.
Bruce, Julie and Hamish generously shared story and urge other farming families around the country not to ignore the inevitable.
