SM, I don't want to quote the whole of the above comment, but just when you mentioned the brain shutting down as you fall asleep - that for me, is when I have my weirdest thoughts. I really want to write them down but I can never be bothered as I am just on that brink of falling to sleep.

Oooh Surfermom, l think night is the worst time to think, especially if you are in bed. Your thoughts escalate and grow out of control.
This is why l always have paper and pen by the side of the bed. I jot my thoughts down and deal with them in the morning when my mind is fresh and my thinking is more rational.
