Cup measures?

I have copied this recipe off FB but it is American with cup sizes! (Not bra sizes!! - another thread). Can anyone please convert it for me to pounds and ounces or grams. I've tried myself before on other recipes and get myself into a right muddle.

Apple Cinnamon Loaf

1/3 cup brown sugar (not packed)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2/3 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup milk
1 apple, peeled and chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl and set aside. Beat white sugar and butter together in a bowl using an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Beat in eggs, 1 at a time, until incorporated; add vanilla extract.

Combine flour and baking powder together in another bowl; stir into creamed butter mixture. Mix milk into batter until smooth. Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Next add half the apples and half the brown sugar cinnamon mixture. Lightly pat apple mixture into batter.

Pour the remaining batter over apple layer; top with remaining apples and add more brown sugar/cinnamon mixture. Lightly pat apples into batter; swirl brown sugar mixture through apples using a finger or spoon.

Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center of the loaf comes out clean, 30 to 40 minutes.

That's useful to know, thank you Audrey.

Thanks Mags for the information. I just need to get my brain around 2/3rd of a cup.

Re: Cup measures?

There are 8 ounces in a cup so a 2/3 cup equals 5 and 1/3 in ounces.

Re: Cup measures?

As long as you use the same cup for every item mentioned the quantities will be in the correct proportions so no need to convert them to anything

The whole idea of the cup measurement was that all housewives would have one even it they were too poor to own scales

Re: Cup measures?

Thanks for working that out for me Mags.

Yes, Meg, but it wouldn't it depend on the size of the cup to the size of the cake you want to make?

It is to fit a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan so it will be the size of a small sandwich loaf

Re: Cup measures?

Bawhaha

American measures are a nightmare. Their liquid measures are different to everybody else's.

US gallon = 3.8 litres
UK gallon - 4.5 litres

US cup 236 ml
Metric cup 250ml

It's madness, the sooner everybody goes metric the better.
