Re: Chinese Coronavirus

The World Health Organization reported a record single-day increase in global coronavirus cases on Sunday, as the tally surged by a further 307,930 infections in just 24 hours.

Israel becomes first country to reimpose lockdown

Israel will enter a three-week nationwide lockdown starting on Friday to contain the spread of the coronavirus after a second-wave surge of new cases, prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday, becoming the first country worldwide to reimpose a strict national lockdown.

Reuters reports that during the lockdown, which comes during the Jewish high-holiday season, Israelis will have to stay within 500 metres of their houses, but can travel to workplaces that will be allowed to operate on a limited basis.

NZ to ease restrictions after Auckland's second wave

New Zealand is set to lift coronavirus restrictions across the country on September 21, except in its biggest city Auckland — the epicentre of a second wave of infections.

Instead, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said Auckland's restrictions have been extended.

Re: Chinese Coronavirus

Overnight in the UK....3330 new cases but only 5 deaths.
How come there is such a disparity in the figures now? (not that I'm complaining mind!)

Could it be that people had it once and now are clear but still testing positive?

Or people are catching it for a second time but their bodies have built a defence?

Or is it because less people die of the flu in the summer months for whatever reason?

Answers on a postcard please and send to:-......

The figure was released yesterday at 1600, not overnight - I'd already posted it elsewhere .....

I'm working from Bruce's figures Omah, and they are a day late for us. When dealing with statistics you must always stick to the same model.

But are we taking the focus off what the figures represent by analysing the method too closely? Getting bogged down with the detail.....

AFAIK, Bruce still gets his figures from the link I posted on 08-02-2020 - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ - that site uses the same source for the UK that I do so. AFAIK, it is updated at the same time 1600-1700 (or thereabouts) every day .....

Of course, the "worldometers" figures for the rest of the world will not, necessarily, be in step with the UK.

I think it is because they are keeping the disease out of the aged care homes. I don't know what the UK rules are but in NSW Aged Care homes have special rules about visitors (which is basically one I think). I am sure the UK will have similar plans. From memory something like 60% of the Australian deaths were in Aged Care Homes.

BTW I get all the figures at about 5am UK time (2pm AEST) so they will relate to the previous day but I suspect that is the same as here where they release the figures each morning for the previous 24 hours up to midnight.

There is a slight discrepancy between the Worldmeters figure and the John Hopkins University figures but it is so small as to be meaningless. for example the global figures at the same time (now)

Worldometers: 29,206,669

John Hopkins Uni: 29,019,639

Exactly !! OGF seems to be a trait of ours to over complicate things??
Im not sure if its a human trait or national one?
But the picture l am getting from the world statistics is that ALL
countries will suffer an initial relatively high infection rate followed
by falling infections then as we relax controls a rising infection rate
untill controls are applied again! I think this pattern will repeat
several times with lower peaks each time untill we reach a sort of
ambient level of infections that we will have to "live with" ?
The death rate will also continue to fall as the vulnerable continue
to become less prevalent due to having been culled by the disease !
This will result in world populations becoming healthier with the
benefits this entails !
Obviously this is only my opinion but the pattern is allready becoming
clear to those that can see??

Donkeyman! 🤔🤔🤔

Yes that's true Omah, but I can't be arsed searching the internet for a reliable set of statistics, and Bruce posts them every day on the forum so it's easier to use those. Thanks Bruce...
