Any wine buffs here ?

i confess to liking a glass or three of good wine, red or white as long as its not the nasty stuff they almost give away.

Its still possible to get some very good half price deals at most supermarkets, we have a good selection of fine wine

Re: Any wine buffs here ?

Not a wine buff by any stretch of the imagination. I just know what I do like, and what I don't like.

I've never come across a French red wine that I've liked, I'm afraid, because they've always tasted like vinegar to me.

Some Italian reds are nice, like Lambrusco and we once got rather merry on some red wine from one of the Eastern Europe countries, but I'm not sure where it was from now as this was in 1973!

I do prefer white wine, medium sweet and I do have a penchant for the German wines such as Hock, Liebfraumilch and Riesling, preferrably from the Moselle or Rhine areas.

Wine is a personal taste I suppose.

Yes Mollie darlin' - me too, and it was probably from Bulgaria - I drank a whole case of it inside three days whilst travelling across Siberia. It was very much like Madeira.

Re: Any wine buffs here ?

Not a wine buff but I do enjoy a good wine .

My preference is for New Zealand wines . I tend to buy wines when they are on offer and ration myself. I don't go out much at all so it is my one treat.

My current favourite for special occasions is Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough, it tastes of gooseberries.

At the moment Waitrose have Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc Marlbrough on offer, that is quite drinkable.

I also like some of the reds from South America.

Not a wine buff but I do like a glass of red and usually go for the more expensive ones that are on offer. If I buy a French wine I look for the ones that have the" Appellation Controleer"(sp) on the label and they are almost always a good wine but if you buy the cheap "Vin De Table" then you will almost always get a bottle of vinegar.
And that is the extent of my knowledge

I used to make my own 'country' wines from ingredients gleaned from the hedgerows. Sadly my gathering days are now over and therefore my wine making. My 'Parsnip' wine was something else - real head-banger stuff which was lethal to the uninitiated.

Mall darlin' - I once made 5 gallons of Rice wine - it was strong, but it tasted alright. I even used a fair amount of it for cooking.

My great aunt who bought me up made wine from just about everything I well remember collecting coltsfoot , dandelion, elder flowers/ berries to make wine .

When I was 4 years old we had visitors and out came the wine . When no one was paying attention I downed a glass of elderberry in one go and slept for 24 hours
