Re: Apostrophes, do you use them?

I have a thing about apostrophes and, for that matter, all punctuation, spelling and grammar!

I sometimes wonder if I'm the only one who does, considering how many times I see their misuse even in places where one would expect the author ought to know better - including the Daily Mail!

I don't know why my interest should be so deep. I barely scraped an 'O' level in English when I left school and I haven't really studied it since then.

I'm fussy about punctuation as part of my job is proof-reading and the number of times they're omitted, wrongly used or overused is staggering. It's amazing how many people don't know how to use a semicolon.

Re: Apostrophes, do you use them?

I'm a bit OCD about them as well. I do sometimes amend public notices with a felt tip if I can be sure nobody is around. I wish I could stop doing it, but it drives me nuts and I find it quite stressful to see them left out or incorrectly used.

Ooh, naughty!

Actually, I have occasionally done that too, but I don't think anyone realised!
