Has immigration come too far?

I live very close to `flat land` where agriculture is one of the main employers. My gardener has just arrived and he was saying things are getting tight for him as work outside the traditional `gardening season` is silly. He tried to get a job as a labourer but the best offer was £6.20 an hour,others just said `sorry mate we only employ Eastern Europeans because they work all day for fcuk all.

Re: Has immigration come too far?

According to the television this morning the difference is 14,000 immigration compared to migration since 2012. They interviewed an owner of a business producing fresh carrotts, he stated he relies heavily on east europeans as local youngsters are not applying for the jobs which involve working sundays and bank holidays.
This leads to another question Have we spoilt our children too much?

Re: Has immigration come too far?

These are the recent migration figures from the ons:

In the year ending (YE) September 2015: Net long-term international migration = +323,000 (up 31,000 from YE September 2014)
Immigration = 617,000 (up 2,000 from YE September 2014)
Emigration = 294,000 (down 29,000 from YE September 2014)

617,000 people came into the country for YE Sept 2015, this would be okay if we had the services to cope with the influx, but we don't. If the government wants these sorts of stats to continue, they need to improve services and fast.

Absolutely we have
There are so many reasons youngsters feel it is beneath them to earn a living - too many to go into
We need to set things right in the schools and at home but that will be a long time coming I feel

I feel a bit sorry for kids these days, even if they get a job what have they to look forward to ? No realistic housing, unable to ever retire, war on the horizon. People telling them how lazy they are, how their exam results are not worth what the old o levels etc were.

Have you completely missed Putin ? Daesh ? And various others. We seem to be on verge of something very nasty indeed.

Nope, not missed them nor the Muslim threat to the West ..... but I don't think scaremongering about the possibility of a war is the reason kids are deterred from trying to get a job.

Besides, you seem to be suggesting a major, global war ... not to be confused with our usual modus operandi of a few bombing raids, regime change and invasions here and there.

You're absolutely right - I wouldn't like to be in their shoes
