Re: Chris Packham and the Countryside Aliance

Ray, you say: " Hunting with dogs is already banned."

I have already answered this earlier in this thread.

I don't know the situation in your area, but I can assure you it still goes on down here - ban or no ban.

Some of the hunt comprise of local magistrates and Cops, so what chance is there of upholding the ban when they are part of the hunt!

There is so much filmed evidence of what I am saying if you know where to look.
And another thing. They are supposed to use the scent trails - foxes urine - but where do you honestly think they get the urine from in the first place?

Re: Chris Packham and the Countryside Aliance

Not so long ago a hunt was fined a paltry sum for breeding fox cubs.
Why would a hunt want to breed fox cubs?
Trail hunting? Don,t make me laugh. In most cases the person is lying a trail of fox scent. When the trail layer is out of sight he/she gets into a vehicle and is whisked away.
I would like to lay the scent of these hunters and set a pack of hungry wolves after them.

Re: Chris Packham and the Countryside Aliance

Donkeyman is quite right. Most of these problems have been brought about by Man. We have some wanting crows, magpies, foxes, grey squirrels pigeons, Canada geese etc' destroyed. Can you imagine a world without these creatures? If this is the world you want then I suggest you move to the centre of a big town or city away from the world of wildlife. We have people complaining to their MPs or anyone else who will listen about foxes raiding their bins and coming into their town gardens. And who is responsible for this? Man!! It was he who decimated the rabbit population with the introduction of that cruelest of all plagues, myxomatosis thereby depriving the fox of it,s natural food, rabbit. So what does it do? It searches out the easiest method of obtaining food by coming into town.
I have lived deep in the country all my life and have noticed how man and his greed has damaged the countryside. I don,t want to see the end of these creatures, they have always been part of our life.
I am all for Chris Packham and think that the hunting of animals with dogs just to give 'enjoyment' to the so called gentry and their ladies should be banned for all time.

Re songbirds etc
as has been pointed out somewhere the domestic cat is one of the main predators of small birds. Many are let out go out hunting every night.

Re: Chris Packham and the Countryside Aliance

I find it hard to believe how many members of this forum
have such self centred, short sited views about life in
general, and wild life in particular!
About life in general they only seem to worry about any
inconveniece that might be caused to themselves! And about
about wild life in particular, they will allow it to exist only if
it obeys the rules that they lay down!
Also they seem to believe we are above any other form of
life! and that we should have jurisdiction over what and where
wild animals can exist!
If these people get their way the human race will soon find
it cannot survive alone on this planet!
They also decry the so called cruelty of the natural system,
whilst condoning downright bloodthirsty and cruel methods
of modern hunting, which is totally unnecessary, lf wild
animals are deemed in need of culling then they should be
disposed of in aspeedy and humane manner and not be
subjected to a undignified spectacle for the so called ' pleasure'
of a few hooligans!
Farmers must also bear responsibility for the loss of wild life
world wide! Due mainly to the combative nature of their
relationship, and farmers insatiable desire for larger and larger
farms!
I have n.o answers to any of the problems the human race is
going to face in the near future!
I can only say, we deserve all we get!

Regards Donkeyman!

Hi

Some animals are pests, they destroy others.

What is wrong with pest control?

I do not Foxhunt.

I shoot foxes if they are a problem.

There is a difference.

Hi Swimmy, your definition of what constitutes a pest seems
to aptly describe the human race!
Might l also politely ask how many foxes you shot in the
last two years?

Someone, sometime very soon is going to complain that foxes should be exterminated because they raid chicken houses and kill every bird that is in that house.
My answer to anyone who makes this complaint is that it,s the chicken house owners own fault. It,s the easiest thing in the world to make a chicken house foxproof.

Yes, but it's not always that straighforward, Swim.

A simple example which comes to mind is, slugs and aphids are a pest to gardeners, so they destroy them - BUT, by doing this, they are also destroying the food source of Ladybirds, hedgehogs and other creatures.

By poisoning insects and mice, you are cutting off some of the food supply of large birds etc.

We are destroying wildlife habitat daily, so the survivors are being forced into towns.

In an ideal world, things would have a balance, but man has upset that too much.

Everything has it's predator, but man is the worst of all.
