It's the environment, stupid!

When the government, most politicians, the media and the environmentalists all clamour to bring an end to the private motor car then what else do you expect but endless job losses in the car industry.

Nothingto do with brexit! Or has it?

Toyodaw Gosei: Hundreds of jobs at risk at car parts plants

Hundreds of car parts jobs are set to be axed after a firm announced it was pulling out of the UK.
Toyoda Gosei UK's plants at Gorseinon in Swansea and Rotherham in South Yorkshire employ 458 people.

The company, which produces components for Toyota, Nissan, Renault and Honda, said it was responding to changes in the global sector and a "significant reduction" in UK customer demand.

Andrew Denniff, from Rotherham and Barnsley Chamber of Commerce, said the firm was a "big player" in the town and its loss would have a huge impact on families, as well as the UK.

"The impact of Brexit has now become an unpleasant reality," he added.," he added.

"The Japanese-headquartered company, which opened its Swansea site in 2011, said it was making the move "in response to continued changes in the global automotive sector, and a significant reduction in key UK customer demand".

No customers = no product needed.
It's not difficult to understand, surely?

No doubt the UK companies using such parts are getting them elsewhere .............. and since content has to be of a certain percentage of origin to protect from tariffs I suspect that the reality is that one company has lost out while another has gained.

FYI for comparison, Toyota alone employs nearly 4000 at Burnaston and Deeside.
Nissan employs around 7000 in Sunderland.

Of course I get it bro, less Toyota, Nissan, Renault and Honda being assembled in the UK, less parts needed. So it seems to be a cascade, only just starting.....

Where have you been these past months and years?
Okay ........... we know it's not the UK but still.

Didn't you know that our car exports are back to around normal levels taking into account the global chip shortage which is hampering manufacturing around the world?
Or that there are changes coming throughout the auto industry because of the desire to move away from fossil-fuelled ICE transport to EV's?
You really do need to keep up.

And FYI for cars to be sold as British-made they need a certain percentage of - you guessed it - British-made parts to qualify.
You're so far behind the times as to appear prehistoric in your failed attempts to decry anything British and it's making you look really daft.

Absolutely, my big friend, but that is why less parts being manufactured in the UK, less cars meeting that requirement will follow.

The decline in exports of cars is likely also linked to a fall in demand and reduced car manufacturing. Car manufacturing for export markets fell by*29.1% in January*2021 compared with January 2020, representing the 17th month of decline in UK outputs. This reduction in manufacturing, because of the reduction in demand, had a knock-on effect for the export of cars. Exports decreased by*£0.2 billion in January 2021*as 80.6% of cars built in the UK were for the export market, down from 82.7% in January 2020. The decrease in exports of cars to EU countries has been affected most, particularly exports to Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/natio...de/january2021

Imports from the United Kingdom were EUR 9 billion in 2002, and remained between EUR 8 billion and EUR 12 billion until 2014. They increased to EUR 16 billion in 2016 after which they gradually fell to EUR 9 billion in 2020.

Between 2002 and 2020, the EU had a trade surplus for cars with the United Kingdom which peaked at EUR 26 billion in 2015. It dropped to EUR 19 billion in 2020.

There are not less parts being manufactured in the UK Solly old bean and I've explained why too.
Do keep up.

Keep up again because we're not in January any more you know.

"UK new car manufacturing down only slightly in first three months of 2021"

"Data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows March was particularly strong compared with the same month last year, although production that month was impacted by the arrival of the first coronavirus lockdown.

According to the SMMT’s figures, more than 306,000 new cars were built in this country during the first three months of 2021. That’s down slightly on the 319,000 built during the same period in 2020, but with demand still below normal levels, it’s an encouraging statistic for those in the industry."

How do you know that another parts plant hasn't expanded capacity?
The parts have to come from somewhere in the UK.

Oops zappy, exports are comparable to last year. Needless to say that is different from production. Wasn't it you who pointed to the stockpiling that took place in winter 2020?

You can't export what you haven't actually produced Solly.
It isn't exactly rocket science.
Cars weren't stockpiled either and the above refers to 3 months-worth of data.
