Exactly.
My Father was invalid out of the first world war wounded. Like most then he was 'thrown on the scrap heap'. Unable to work. No such things a food banks, benefits or other free hand outs in those days. You either begged, stole or relied on the kindness of others to survive. That was austerity and those effected did not put the blame on others. It was their problem and a problem that only themselves could solve and they survived. Very few died of starvation.
No such thing as real austerity today. There is always help for those in desperate need.

Re: Austerity?

Due respect Xandra but this was child labour/slavery and nothing to do with austerity.

Re: Austerity?

Austerity is thus relative to what one is accustomed to.

Re: Austerity?

World War 2 was one of the worst things ever to happen to this country because a lot of people have never stopped living it and everything that has happened since is always measured against it however increasingly ridiculous that process might be.
Stabbings in the street? That's nothing we had to put up with German bombs. Why is it only those most ill-equipped to cope that get the bile of the atavists thrown art them?

Austerity is struggling to upgrade your smart phone or not affording enough cannabis to get you through the day.

Austerity? Some of us lived through world war 2 and know what austerity is so I suggest they either read the history books or keep their trap shut.
Labour are trying to harvest grief with their usual bullshit.

They might want to think about how many millions and millions of people have died because of their Marxist ideology.

Just more stupid stunts from the left. A vote for labour is a vote for austerity further down the line.

Re: Austerity?

Pre WW2 austerity was a way of life for most, at least it is only
spasmodic now??? Hopefully!
But Julie l think it was has a point when she related the case of
that poor woman she is helping at the momennt, something is
Wrong when people in that situation cant get any help to ease
their allready difficult situation, imo the officials in charge of
assessing her were grossly defficient, surely she must have had
some sort of doctors note or something? And the fact that the
officials concerned ignored the fact she could not read was
deriliction of duty? Her case should have been managed by a
social worker! These are the people the system is meant to help!
Not over large gorrilla's with a BAD back and a slight limp?

Re: Austerity?

I always look at things this way, would I want my children to go through this, and if the answer is no it's wrong to expect other families to. I was reading today how many ex service men are homeless on the street, that has got worse since austerity and if people think it's right shame on them.
