UK and USA sign a customs agreement

"Britain and U.S. sign agreement to ensure smooth post-Brexit trade"

“This is an important agreement that ensures continuity post EU exit, and demonstrates the strength of the US-UK customs relationship,” British Treasury minister Jesse Norman said in a statement.

“This deal will allow us to continue to cooperate in combatting customs offences by sharing information and good practice, and provides the legal underpinning for schemes to ease trade flows for importers and exporters.”

No, it's not a trade dead - we can't sign new trade deals until next year.
But it's a good sign that work is progressing apace towards one - no doubt to the annoyance of those still believing that a USA/UK trade deal is unlikely.

Re: UK and USA sign a customs agreement

Excellent news. No, not a trade deal, but an agreement to ensure continued smooth trade, which is essential to the trade deals I am sure will be coming our way with the USA,regardless of all the usual hyperbol coming from Biden and pro-EU whingers.

Have you seen today's news that Lightziger is saying we can have a "mini-deal" soon?

' "I'm talking to [International Trade Secretary] Liz Truss, about trying to work out some kind of a deal... I'm hopeful we can get some kind of an agreement out you know, we don't have a lot of time left," he said. '
And:
' "We have the advantage in that both the US and the UK - particularly the current government of the UK - are not big subsidisers, where some other countries are more inclined to subsidise. So it would be helpful if we could come to some kind of agreement," he said when asked about lowering tariffs on whisky and cashmere. "We are in discussions, we'll see how that works out." '

Of course it's from the BBC, so expect their usual pro-EU-biased caveats.
It must have hurt them to even report this much because you have to hunt to find it; unsuprisingly, it is not on their home page.
