Ripening green tomatoes

Has anyone tried using the banana method to ripen green tomatoes?
I keep reading about it but have never tried it myself.

" How to Make Tomatoes Turn Red Getting tomatoes to turn red is not difficult. There are several methods that can be used for making tomatoes turn red.

One of the best ways for getting tomatoes to turn red is by using ripening bananas.
The ethylene gas produced from these fruits helps with the ripening process."

Or you could just fry them. A heavenly treat down here in the south.

They do say just leave on a light windowcill, or alternatively some say wrap in tissue and put in a drawer in the dark. Personally I just leave them on the vine....

Yes, Marge has tried this, but unfortunately it hasn't made much difference so far. Others are just sitting on the windowsill.

She's still hoping!

I've always been curious to try this but the recipes I've seen need buttermilk and cornmeal which are not so easy to source at the supermarkets here.

Green tomato chutney is one way of using them up.

Here's a recipe using Polenta. I guess you can substitute polenta with breadcrumbs.
