Re: winter rose today

I like the composition and it is well focussed. A bit overdone on the 'sharpen' filter though.

just a touch to tidy up the petal edges and better definition. Obviously cropped as well. But that is part of photo presentation
Used rule of thirds for composition

Maybe Mother Nature chose to put all the goodness into the bloom knowing this was the important part for future survival? Nature often knows best, judging from what I have seen in the past, in many different ways.

Nice photo by the way. I used to be into a lot of image retouching using PhotoShop in the printing trade, although I haven't done much of this for some while now. That was all about getting the best image for the printing process from what was supplied, a very involved process especially when dealing with the public as I used to for some publications. I also learned about 'airbrushing' and what can be achieved. Rather a controversial subject but nonetheless very interesting to see what can be achieved.

I remember the early days of digital retouching when the computer was the size of a house and cost an arm and a leg. I also remember the 'real' airbrushing and retouching.

Yes LD, that era followed when printing plates were etched in copper and I seem to recall you had something to do with that, probably working at the same or similar companies to where I used to work.

The first company I worked at, where it was all computerised, had a mainframe computer which had to be in an air-conditioned room. The terminals / keyboards and printers in the room where the work was carried out also had to be kept cool. All that had no more computing power (probably less) than a good desktop or laptop we can buy today. Amazing really how technology has developed, especially with the internet and what can be done now we have that.
