Surfermom might be able to explain better than me Tiff, but I think it is possible for an asteroid to sneak up on us and take us by surprise...

Wasn't it Bruce Willis who saved the world in a movie called Asteroid...if it wasn't him it was someone like him....yes I'd ring Bruce he would know what to do having done it once already.

An asteroid a quarter size of the moon ? That is hundreds of times larger than the one which wiped out the dinosaurs. The luckiest ones would be the ones who are vaporized immediately. I'd head straight for the center of the impact area, and go out in a flash.
