"In cash please guv."

Mega rich individuals & global corporations come into a lot of flack for their tax avoidance culture antics.

Aren’t we all guilty of paying tradesmen in cash when we are fairly certain none of it will be declared. Or are relatively small sums not important.

Re: "In cash please guv."

I haven't found anyone wanting cash in years, they all put the payments through the books as getting caught is too risky.

I have been paid cash on a couple of occasions but it tax man wants to fight me for the tax on £2 a month I am paid to do my works tea towel washing well he is welcome to try.
Think the washing powder/electric/gas etc has to come out of it so not exactly a huge profit there.

You're right there Robert but I appease my conscience by saying it's down to the tradesman himself whether or not to put it through his books.

Re: "In cash please guv."

I once met O.B.Miller who was the CEO of JLP, they didnt call them CEO's in the 1960s. I must have been at an impressionable age because I remember the speech he gave "Pennies into Snowballls". He was referring to litle acts , mebbe dishonest, growing by stages to dishonest things that "mattered".
For example, I wouldnt dream of keeping money in change over what was due to me. i have worked in shops & I know that the cashier is responsible for any shortages. Others wouldnt turn a hair & would consider it fairplay.

At what point does "Doesnt matter " become "of concern"

I confess I have moved the goal posts now a bit.

PS
I was given £5 too much change last week in Tesco & the cashier insisted she was right & was adamant that she was right & refused to take the fiver back.. I put the fiver in a collection box, Win a few, lose a few eh?

Re: "In cash please guv."

I always if I notice at the time point out if someone gives me more change than I am owed, I know the cashier will be in trouble if I don't. I hand in pennies lost on the floor at work. Pick them up off the street though if I haven't seen anyone drop them.

Did find a purse full of cash one day in the woods when I was walking my dogs took it to the police station where they treated me like I had stolen it, then they reunited it with the owner who very generously (sarcasm there) gave me a reward of £5, out of the nearly £1400 plus credit cards and pictures I thought that just a little mean, parking at the station cost me £2 !
