Yeah I think you're right Percy. I read it somewhere that's all.

Re: Thank God We are Out of the EU ...

The EU are fighting like rats in a sack over the proposed new fighter jet.

"The battle over the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) with an estimated cost of more than 100 billion euros ($120.4 billion) has intensified since Spain officially joined the project late last year.

The three countries still disagree over intellectual property rights and workshares, with French company Dassault demanding 50% of the workload, security sources told Reuters on Friday."

Another excellent example of why we are better off out.

Trust the Frogs to demand the lion's share of the workload now Spain has opted in instead of splitting the work evenly in 3.

I wonder if the "system" will include a reverse gear to allow any French pilots to retreat out of trouble?

It's the reheated version of Eurofighter that was obsolete as soon as it left the hangar.

The new UK Tempest looks to be a great piece 9f kit.

When it comes to great planes the UK has a incredible pedigree- concorde, spitfire, hurricane and ofcourse the Jump Jet.

Such a shame we had to give McDonald Douglas (now part of Boeing) complete control over future developments of this great little fighter when we sold some to the US marines.

I the look of that new UK fighter

They still can't get it right either. The engine blows up if you try and take off vertically like the jump hey did so instead it goes up at an angle.

IIRC that was the one big difficulty with the Harrier; the VTOL capabilities meant that the dynamics required to be an effective fighter jet were compromised in other areas.

True. Our politicians have a long history of handing over technology to our competitors. Harrier and, before that, TSR2 and our early jet engine developments to Russia for their MiG15.

They'd rather spend our money on such things as foreign aid.

True, but our pilots knew how to viff the throttles so the plane could take off vertically, the marines still can't get to grips with the technique and have to do a rolling take off.
