A Chalazion.....The Eye Doctor, Hot And Cold Eye Compress.

I have had a small red area on the skin inside my lower eyelid for a some weeks now. The doctors have prescribed two lots of antibiotic eye drops but it has made no difference.

It has started to concern me as it isn’t going away. So today, l called into my local Boots Opticans to ask if it’s something l should be concerned about.

A lovely optician took me into her room and looked at it. She said, it is a Chalazion and recommended l purchased, The Eye Doctor Hot And Cold Eye Compress.

I choked a bit at the price of £21.99 but thought, she was really decent to see me with no appointment and she said it would help.

Since getting home l thought l would look at the reviews for this eye mask that you heat up via a microwave or an oven. If you want it Cold, you put it in the freezer!
The reviews were mixed with many negative reviews.

So l ask, have you ever used this mask, what did you think of it? Was it worth £21.99?
Have you ever had a Chalazion, how was yours treated?

I have used those heated pads for Blepharitis on occasions, Art, but not a Chalazion. I found it helps my sore eyes feel less sore, with my drops as well.

I expect you have googled your condition, but here is something from Moorfields if it's any help:

Hope it does the trick for that price .
Wouldn't you have though your doctor would have known what it was?

It seems a Chalazion is a bit like a stye and should be treated the same way - with compresses, so your kit should be appropriate - most of the reviews that I have seen are positive.

Personally, I would supplement the compresses with an oral intake of Vitamin C, e.g. orange juice, since I know that helps clear styes.

Chalazions are mostly harmless and should get better and eventually disappear on their own. This could take a few months, so to help it along we’d recommend applying a hot compress regularly to the affected eye. This will help to soften the contents of the cyst, and encourage it to drain on its own.

Yes, Zuleika, it is like a stye but inside, not on my eyelid.
I have seen three different doctors and not one has said, it’s a Chalazion. I think doctors stick to bodily parts but don’t seem to know a lot about eyes?
I once had flashing lights at the side of my eye, l went to the doctors and he told me to go to Boots Opticians.
The optician there said, l needed to see an eye specialist there and then.

Omah, When l first went to the doctors about the stye l had, l said l wondered if l was due to a deficiency of Vitamin C. Two of the doctors said, styes weren’t to do with a deficiency of Vitamin C. Well, my mother always used to say, it was!

Hi Art I think this is what I have for bletheritis in my eyes . I get itchy eyes and was told along the lashes is a build up of oil which clogs the pores in my eyelids . The eye mask is wonderful when heated up , I use it as hot as I can fir five mins then again and then wipe my eyes . Its helped with the itchiness . I paid the same as you and definitely worth it .

I dont know what it is you have but if she suggested use it i would . I also buy dry eye drops I buy in boots but dont know if they would be right for you . Wishing you well

Re: A Chalazion.....The Eye Doctor, Hot And Cold Eye Compress.

My daughter had a lump inside her lower eyelid which showed as a red spot when she was 14, I took her to the doctor who diagnosed a cyst in the eyelid and gave her antibiotic eye drops which did nothing. He didn't give it a name like Chalazion but I wonder if it was similar. The lump became prominent under her eye so the doctor immediately phoned the Eye Hospital and and told them he was sending my daughter there immediately to be seen.

We didn't have time to think about it, booked a taxi and off to the hospital. She was seen immediately and had the eye numbed and with me holding her hand tightly, she had the cyst removed. It all happened so quickly and all it cost me was the price of a Bagpuss toy to make her keep still while they performed the cyst removal.

Maybe it's nothing like that Art but it did sound similar to my daughter's cyst.

It's not necessarily a deficiency of Vitamin C that causes eye problems, but taking more Vitamin C than usual "on-board" will definitely help with the healing process .....
