Hi AC & Julie - sorry don't have time to read the whole thread but I just wanted to make a point that I think AC is refering to when the most appropriate reply would be "You're welcome" that's
after the task has been completed, whereas if someone at work asks you to do something you can't use "you're welcome" so your response is fine (In my humble opion) if (in the unlikely occasion) the person at work latter comes back to you and says "Julie, thank you for taking those heavy bags out the office" then the "You're welcome" response is more appropriate.
It's a fine line between the two but I always think that using different responses is better.
AS AC said in post No.1 it is all too easy to get into the habbit of using abbreviated phrases. One that is irritating me greatly at themoment is TV presenters who say "Hi I'm Joe Bloggs in for Bill Dummy" there's a word missing, it should be "Hi I'm Joe Bloggs
standing in for Bill Dummy"
OH well AC, that's my lot for the OFF today, I'm off to prepare the meal for my (sorry our) dog
