Flowers In The Woods

Here was a pleasant surprise on my hike in the woods today. Again, I haven't a clue the variety of flower here but I know beauty when I see it.

Someone has said that it's a Rhododendron.

That could be right, Bob as it does look very similar ..... I have never seen one that colour before though, I'll have to put that on my wish list!

i think it is an azalea Bob (which is closely related to the rhododendrons). The leaves look as if they could be deciduous. Many azaleas are deciduous and have smaller leaves. There are also only 5 stamens and i think rhodos. have 10. Beautiful colour and as ever a lovely photograph - Rhododendronss and azaleas are a favourite of mine and we grow them in our garden.

Re: Flowers In The Woods

Not quite that colour Mags. We have a red a yellow and a nice bi-colour, which is a paler yellow to Bob's photo with a rose overlay. Its a pity that they don't last a long time or repeat flower. If they flower too early the frost often gets them and they spoil.
