Wasn't it a "Belisha Beacon"?

It was named after Leslie Hore-Belisha, the Minister of Transport who put them up (not personally of course). Surely the crossing was called a "Zebra Crossing"

It's making a comeback - this girl amazes me! I see hula hoops for sale but not a lot of skill at this level.

Yes Bruce they were originally called Zebra crossings, however since the inception of 'Pelican' crossings (those with traffic lights and bleeps') to differentiate between the two those that have remained 'Zebra' crossings' have also been named 'Belisha' crossings too.

Re: Hopscotch - or Graffiti ...

Quite a few schools here have banned 'somersaults and handstands' on school grounds in the interests of health and safety ( worried about compo claims) what a mess! and a 5yr old girl's Mum was called and told that her daughter had been refused permission to play on the monkey bars as she wasn't wearing tights and it was a mixed playground and her knickers had been on view, what a horrible world we live in!

Re: Hopscotch - or Graffiti ...

We have lots of children living around us, and you hardly ever see one out playing. In my day we would always be out playing unless it was seriously raining.

Did you ever have two girls swinging a long skipping rope and a group of girls had to run in and start jumping the rope at given times and then, one at a time, also had to leave the jumping without stopping the rope? That was fun!
