Re: Type II Diabetes

Hi BF, I have been Diabetic over 30 years now and I take 174 units of Insulin a day plus 4 Metformin tablets.

I also have Neuropathy in my calves and feet, and I do have problems with my right eye.

Its good to try and avoid all sugars if possible.

I'm off to do myself a small salad now, as I had my main dinner at lunch time.

I am having a really bad weekend...as my nephrologist has set up a three hour appt. on Tuesday at The Kidney Care Centre...for me. He is hoping that if I can learn ways to get my numbers back up...perhaps I can avoid having to go onto dialysis, within a couple of years...

Thank you, susiejaeger...for your reply to me in "Salads"...it prompted me to post here...
Sorry to hear you are having a bad weekend Beauty but good luck with app on Tuesday, I hope they can help x

Hi Susie...thank you so much for your reply.

I take 1 Metformin at breakfast with 10 to 15 units of Novo Rapid, insulin. I also take 10 to 15 units of Novo Rapid with lunch and dinner. At bedtime I take 10 to 15 units of Novo Rapid and 50 units of Lantus, long acting insulin.

I have to take many other meds throughout the day and night...for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, spinal stenosis and arthritis to name a few...

I am fortunate though as I am still able to walk without assistance...

I am so sorry that you are having trouble with your right eye... My niece in BC...is experiencing some loss of sight in both of her eyes, do to diabetes...as well as neuropathy.

When I was diagnosed in 1989...the specialist at The Diabetic Clinic...thought there would be a cure within five years...

I do not use sugar but rather Splenda Brown Sugar...which is ok because the clinic gave me a sample...

Thanks again Susie...

Thanks Lion Queen...

I am actually looking forward to my appt. on Tuesday but at the same time I am nervous. They informed me by registered mail to bring a family member or friend with me...so my beautiful d-i-l, Sheri is accompanying me...

Re: Type II Diabetes

Good afternoon susie, Mags and summer...I'd just like to thank each of you...for helping me over a hurdle, it meant so much to me.

Once I arrived there yesterday...I had three separate meetings, with nurse/practitioners...each lasting one hour. I learned so much about diabetes and kidney disease of which, I am in stage four. However, I am not in kidney failure and if I follow and apply the advice given, I may never need dialysis... It's all up to me. I have some reading to do now at home from books given to me yesterday...

I have my 2nd appointment on November 5th and it'll only be an hour.

I am so lucky to live in Canada...as our healthcare system pays for everything...
