internet fibre optic

We have just applied to BT to go internet fibre optic from the standard copper wired we use now

hopefully the internet speed will improve from the 14 Mbps download and 0.95 upload we get at the moment.

Have anyone else done the same and noticed a huge difference ?

Re: internet fibre optic

We have fibre, but not to the house, ironically we had a fibre box literally outside our house, installed a couple of years ago, although that’s virgin/ talk talk, but we use plusnet, the only thing putting us off going all fibre is siting the unit, it would mean digging up the lawn and routing the cable around the house to have it where we would like it..

Re: internet fibre optic

Fibre optic cable only runs as far as the cabinets at the end of the road (or the nearest one). From there on, it still gets to individual properties via twin copper wires.

Nonetheless, the article linked to below reckons BT can achieve a guaranteed connection speed of 100mbps but maybe that would still all depend on the distance your house is from a fibre-optic cabinet.

Ours is unlimited , and with me and my son both on separate games consoles and the mrs on her iPad, we find the speed doesn’t slow at all...

Re: internet fibre optic

I wish we are still on snailnet here 2mbps and no chance of improvement any time soon.

Apparently, we are in a 'grey area', half a mile up the road they have superfast broadband but it isn't available to the village

That’s weird meg, although mrs p,s aunt and uncle live less than a quarter of a mile from a BT exchange, yet they can’t get fibre, their street hasn’t been done yet !

Re: internet fibre optic

I've had fibre optic for 18 months in June and I've found that it is slightly better than ye olde copper cable.

The UK is still far behind in all of this, though.

It's embarrassing.
