Re: Introvert

I have ordered some books to be delivered to my kindle today on the subject. Over the past 2-3 years I have read so many self help books on various subjects on my kindle. I never go anywhere to meet people. I used to drink alcohol before I could face a social event but I gave alcohol up 3 years ago when I decided it was time to sort myself and my life out. I'm just feeling so lost at the moment. I don't make real friends just acquaintances and when I move on workwise or geographically I drop those acquaintances. I am not close to my family either. I would like to change and that is what I am working towards.

Re: Introvert

It may be worth looking in your local library for classes in a subject you are interested in
Meeting like minded people is a great way to start building confidence

Tess, can you define how you would like to change? In an ideal world, what would be most important to you?

Yes I was thinking the same.

Tess, I honestly think the problem here is that you need to enjoy being you. You are unique, we all are. There are things we don't like about ourselves - goodness, I could write a book - but I think you reach a point where you know you are a good person and don't need to be like everyone else.

My heart goes out to you because it seems like a huge lack of confidence, when you actually sound a lovely person who is gentle. Nothing wrong with that. Embrace it.

I have spent my whole adult life trying and failing to be a normal person. It seems to me I have always been living a lie. Acting one thing but actually feeling another. Letting people get close then pushing them away. Trampling all over people as I dive back undercover.
This is why I need and want to change.

Tess, have you spoken to your gp about seeing a counsellor? I have a couple of friends who have seen one and it's made such a difference to their lives. Infact, they've given me tips

You shouldn't have to feel like this. You need peace of mind and you're perfectly entitled to it.

No Myra I haven't spoken to a GP about this. I might do that. On Thursday I am seeing someone to have a session of energy healing not sure if it will help but willing to give it a go. I had a course of meditation with her and although I haven't been practising the techniques she was teaching the group I decided to see if there was any other help she could offer on a one to one basis. See there I go again! Not comfortable with the group prefering one to one! I do like her though and would trust her to help me if it's possible.

If it's one to one, which most people prefer, then I'd definitely speak to your gp Tess. They will refer you for counselling. I'm led to believe that you can completely open up to the right counsellor and they can give you so much advice on coping strategies. I've a friend who is still seeing a counsellor and they have been a godsend to her. I've every faith that someone like this can help you through this. Sounds like you need to open up and let it all out. Then you can move on x

Re: Introvert

I agree with Myra, Tess. You can't lose anything by speaking to your GP, and there is every chance that you will get some help if you do.
Well done for trying to take action to improve things for yourself.

Re: Introvert

Does the NHS provide free counselling services? When I went to the GP with depression she didn't suggest counselling as I recall. CBT was suggested which I did once again on my own using an online site. I did have counselling about 18 months ago from EWRASAC (Edinburgh Women's Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre) this was group counselling.
