I don't think you'll it's the carers job to say what a client can or can't eat, Barry. They'd probably be in trouble if they refused to feed someone. They might advise, but can't force anyone to eat certain things.
The man's GP or district nurse should have more sway than a carer, but even then, I am surprised he was not hospitalised sooner.
I see your point about 'assisted suicide' though, that's an interesting thought.

Agree with Barry - he 'needed help'

But we don't know if he had been offered help for years, and refused it.
We can't force people to accept.

Well Mups It makes sense to me, he wasn't gonna starve was he - just have a decent sized breakfast, then he would gradually get used to that.
Its like giving an alcoholic gin instead of egg and bacon to me ..............

I suspect that is exactly the case.

I'm afraid I do blame the feeders, no one can get to that size alone they have to have help be it from in this case NHS or take aways, surely people delivering from either of those points could see they were killing him !

Yes, I blame the feeders, if they'd reduced his intake of food gradually over he months he would have got used to it, moved around a little more and maybe still here today.
As for takeaway deliveries being brought to his bedside, well, I suppose they only care about selling their stuff so they won't refuse his custom even if it is killing him.

That's my take on it - giving him huge meals is just ridiculous

Re: Britain's fattest man dies

I read today that he was offered a band but didn't want that.
He wanted a psychiatrist help or someone to talk to.
He lived alone and had deteriorated since his Mum had died
a few years ago. Its all in the head isn't it.
I cant understand how people can hate themselves so much.
I had my ups and downs personally with a Father who didn't love
me then got ill but I tried never to hate myself. The help he received
not only did the washing of his body but they also cooked him a meal.
So presumably he ate their meal and then order take away or dumped
theirs and ordered? We will never know. I do think that when I was a kid
in the 50's and 60's we never saw anyone really fat. I think its a
modern thing because food and benefits are on hand and were not when
I was a youngster. I have to hold myself back as to what I think of obese
people. Simply because when I was a kid we didn't have enough food
to eat just after the war and remember having jam and bread for my
tea/dinner. No takeaway was available apart from fish and chips. Had
lots of those because they were cheap at the time. To my mind if someone gets to be about 20 stone then help should be given immediately. Not waiting until that person goes over that and to 65 stone. That's like 6 people instead of me.
