“Police in London have ….. appealed for assistance …… A statement issued by Scotland Yard described Fardowsa as being of Arabic appearance …….. It said that Abir and Ahlam are black, of Somali descent”

I have no choice but to feign indignance! Here, in Sweden, it not allowed to use any of these 3 terms: “Arabic appearance” - “Somali descent” …… “Black”. This is considered HIGHLY racists. EXTREMELY racist, and more than enough to have the newspapers and 9 o'clock talking heads pounding on the table and describing the police-force of being a nest of “Nazis”. How then would the Swedish public assist the police in similar circumstances, what with the only description to go on being “3 schoolgirls”? Yeah well, we're not much help to the police, I'm afraid. I know you think that I'm joking. I'm not.

Oh I believe you. When I was still working in England I, along with colleagues, was frequently sent on training courses re PC. Terminology changed all the time, what was right one week was wrong the next week. My all time favourite, was, still is, "you do not ask for black coffee, you ask for coffee without milk".

Somali people do have a very distinct appearance, beautiful usually. I imagine they would be spotted very quickly.
If someone said, white, blonde hair, Scandinavian appearance would that be racist?

It's too much when it defies common sense such as the example quoted, but how did we ever get to a situation where the PC bullies and thought police held such sway over us, it's not so much a doctrine now as a full blown b****y religion.....

Well said. Whilst I am all for common sense being applied, It is becoming concerning how this PC business is going. It may have a place in today's society but not at the risk of stifling important issues.

I only it really depends on intention if you are describing someone it can't be wrong, if you intend to insult then that's too much.

Simple descriptive terms to aid in finding these girls, im sick to death of ythe PC brigade shouting down everything, its them that make it worse by feining everything is sexist, racist, or whatever.


Leading Feminist on the radio this morning admitted that her movement was responsible for PC in the early days. Now admits its gone to far.

True. It OK to be different and controversial but when it becomes a power trip it then becomes also dangerous. And that is where we are at now

True, but we're not allowed to mention their “nationality” or to say “black”.

No, it wouldn't. Isn't that a kick in the teeth. There was a TV debate some time ago over the banning of a drawing of a young Chinese girl on the packet of Scandinavian-made rice puff chocolates (if I remember correctly). The country was divided over the decision that had already been made to ban the packet cover.

So it ended up on a TV debate: A young white man against an African. Guess we couldn't find a Chinese woman to defend “her people”. The short version of it is the white guy pulling out of his pocket a small tube of “Kalles Kaviar” (a well-known Swedish crayfish egg “caviar” in a squeeze tube) with a drawing of “Kalle” (the product founder's son) displayed on the outside of the tube as it's done for many decades. “This”, says the white guy “must also be banned, in that case!” Laughter all round, except for the African who thought the subject had now gone from very serious into ridicule of a very important issue.

One of several great moments in the debate is when the African criticizes the white guy, “Typical a white man speaking about what Asians should endure!” to which the white guy replies, “No less typical for an African to do so.” (subdued sniggers could be heard) I know you probably don't understand Swedish but here is the debate from YouTube:

Definitely not joking, Social Services insisted on PC at all times, even though it often appeared to change weekly.
