Re: Cars are getting safer

I remember a 'modern' car crashing into the back of my Dad's old Morris Oxford. The modern car was almost a write off, my Dad's car had a dented bumper.

Yes I've seen things like that I think around the 80s 90s cars were quite fragile compared to older ones, I would be interested in a comparison of a 1950s car with a car today.

Part of the problem was lack of anti-rust treatment when built. Within a couple of years underneath the car would be like steel lace curtains - full of holes

Re: Cars are getting safer

Its because cars nowadays have crumple zones, that are designed to absorb impacts, a relatively low speed accident looks worse because the crumple zone has done its job, plus all the safety features built in, many cars have six or seven airbags, to protect the occupants in the event of a crash, plus newer safety features like post collision braking, and radar that can detect pedestrians and apply the brakes if need be, are making cars even safer, which can only be a good thing.
