Re: 1980 Escort

A guy I had a conversation with has a MK1 XR2, with less than 500 miles on the clock, it must be worth similar money, he refused a swop with a seven year old Ferrari.

Re: 1980 Escort

If only I had gone around buying up all the old Ford Escorts that no-one wanted.

These type of vehicles are usually compared to a rare Wine, it only has significant value if it remains unopened. The XR2 I saw was used for promotion purposes by Ford, but travelled by transporter, the low mileage and lack of restoration is everything.

Plus, it has 'full door cards'.

Re: 1980 Escort

I had one for work in the 70s and 80s ran them into the ground , oh and one into a field upside down. I think that one went to the knackers yard.
Its amazing how valuable some of the cars are from that era. I had a Mini cooper in the mid 1960s , be worth a fortune now , also A Ford Cortina 1600E now a classic car,

I loved the 1600E, lovely car. Even the mk3 was a pleasure to drive. I think the reason these old cars are worth so much is that they had character, unlike most of today's cars which are only identifiable by their badges.

Re: 1980 Escort

Just had a look at the 1980 RS2000 performance figures, 110 BHP, 0-60 8.6 seconds, but, because they weren't full of incidental stuff (aircon etc), the BHP felt more.
