Dentists

Why can't they do fillings etc when you go for a 6 month checkup. We always have to make another appointment.

Same with doctors . If you needed a blood test once upon a day he/she would do it there and then or send you into his nurse .
Now you have to make an appointment for an ordered by the doctor one .
I got one yesterday but not until the first week in September !
Then you have make another appointment a week later to discuss with your doctor .

Re: Dentists

Don't really understand the comments here TBH. It's just common sense scheduling.

Imagine you were running a car garage. You have 4 working bays and you know that MOT's take one hour each and that the garage works 8 hours a day. Common sense tells you that you can only fit in at most 32 MOTs a day if it's working flat out just doing MOTs.

With that in mind would you instead just have a booking system where people can just waltz in without declaring what it is they need doing? i.e. MOT, new brakes, new exhaust, etc etc? Madness.

If you're scheduled in for a checkup then that's a known entity and they can schedule you and lots of other people in to a full day's work. If they start doing unscheduled treatments then they will massively overrun and the entire day's schedule will be comrpomised making for lots of unhappy customers.

So makes perfect sense that you should schedule specific treatments as well as checkups.

Re: Dentists

Time is the answer. The Checkup is a ten minute job, the Fillings often need a double appointment. It would throw their work list for the day out, and the waiting room would be full of complaining patients as they are running very late.

Re: Dentists

In the old days a dentist would sit and have a cup of tea with a sausage roll while waiting for the next patient. Such was the flow of patients......Now they are rushed off their feet...

A dentist! What's that? The only ones around here are private and charge more per minute than the vets. The b******s will not even let you park in their car park.

Ghastly people.

Re: Dentists

It does seem a time issue but if you see a private dentist they don't cram in the amount of patients the NHS one's do we have found. We even have one locally runs a walk in type service you just turn up and wait your turn.

This, yes
Appointments are made to fit in with certain time slots. A dentist may one day have a load of check-ups on their schedule, on others they may be doing treatment.
They can't very well be doing a check up on somebody and decide that two fillings need doing and take half an hour longer while dozens of people are waiting longer and longer in the waiting room.

Same as GPs with their rather silly 10-minute appointment time. Some may have a cold and be given a pill while somebody else might have to have a full MOT with a tube stuck up their arse.
