Joe, judging by the response of the Jubilee celebrations I am sure that even you must admit that the Queen is the best head of state that this country could have and that the majority of her subjects love her.

Re: 'Our' Parliamentarians

Not necessarily so Bob. 1 million people turned up to celebrate Mrs Windsor's jubilee yes, but London alone has a population of 8 million, and the country as a whole, a population of 60 million. Therefore those who celebrated on the Thames, could be said to be in the minority. However the issue has never been put to a referendum and there are an awful lot of people, whilst celebrating Mrs Windsor's jubilee, would nonetheless, vote to end the monarchy and have a directly elected head of state.

Please get your facts right Joe.
An estimated 250,000 turned up in the Mall, 20,000(when only 12,000 were expected) in the concert venue and an estimated,(depends which source you take), 35,million celebrated around the UK and unknown millions celebrated around the world.

Who wants an elected head of state who is like, Bashar al-Assad(Syria), President Michael Sata(Yemen), President Goodluck Jonathan(Nigeria), President Hu Jintao(China), President Omar al-Bashir(Sudan), I could go on and on.

As long as there is human greed then ANY elected head of state could enrich his/her own coffers at the expense of their citizens.

Bring someone like Cromwell and I will be at the front of the queue to get rid of him.

Bob you're talking crap and you know it - the examples you have given bear no relation to modern democracies. What f'r instance of Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Hungary, etc, etc, etc. All of these countries at one time (with the exception of Switzerland) had aristocracies and monarchs. All of them, by various means managed to dispose of their aristocracy and now have a modern free democratic society with an ELECTED President.

Just lets take a look at Italy for starters UJ - You seriously mean we should have had a similar system of government to that infliced on Italy by Depretis, Crispi and Giovani Giolitti - ending up with the fascist dictatoriship of Benito Mussolini and his Blacksirts. You would like to see the corruption, coercion, and intimating tactics employed by these despots in this country. No thank you. I haven't even begun to think about the political histories of Hungary, Poland, Austria and Germany pre WW1 and WW11.
