Yes picking has always been low but there are laws about minimum wage today .These are no doubt evaded by the use of migrant labour .
health and safety was your point.

I doubt you have proof they are evaded. It's just that our lot do not want to work for minimum wage because hard work is involved with this role.

Re: Romanian fruit pickers

Proof is that thousands of BRITISH people did apply to work .
Really you know you should stop lumping everyone in the same wheel barrow.
Not every Britain is a lazy no good and not every foreigner has the sun shining out of their nether regions !

That perception is skewed because pickers spend most of the day bending over, thus, the sun is more available for reflection.

Re: Romanian fruit pickers

On our local BBC news last night, they interviewed a local fruit farmer. He's got a number of uni and 6th form students already working in his fields.

Re: Romanian fruit pickers

Hi

Fruit picking is easy, warm weather.

Vegetable harvesting is not.

It is evil, backbreaking work in all weathers.

It is not just the harvesting, it is the planting out as well.

Basically SO WHAT?

There are people more than willing to do this work.

BRITISH people.

The ONLY reason to import these scabs is to cut costs and increase profits.
